Searching for Sandhill Cranes in the San Luis Valley
I spent this past weekend down in the San Luis Valley with a couple friends, exploring around the sand dunes and catching the tail end of the sandhill crane migration. At peak, about 25,000 of these impressive birds stop over in the valley, though most seemed to have moved on a bit early this year. We still saw several thousand and got to experience this stunning process up against the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. We also drank a bit too much wine in a tiny Super 8 motel room and had one of those great deep conversations about life late into the night. My favorite kind of weekend.
