Postcards from Marmot Pass

Hello from the first backpacking trip of the season,

I just got back from a quick solo overnight trip up to Marmot Pass on the northeast side of the Olympic Mountains. Since the prevailing winds come from the southwest, this area falls in a rain shadow and is one of the first alpine regions in Washington to melt out enough for snow-free backpacking. Felt great to get back on the trail and I lucked out with a calm night camping on top of a notoriously exposed and windy ridgeline.

Finished off the trip with another night of car camping in Olympic National Park and dragging my sore legs around the shores of Lake Crescent for a bit. Well and truly feels like summer up in this corner of the country again.

Hope you're well,

Brian
