Postcards from Badlands National Park
Oh how good it felt to get back on the road for some travel photography!
Last weekend, after picking up my now-repaired camera from the shop, I made the 7-hour drive from Denver up to South Dakota’s Badlands National Park, accidentally timing my arrival just after a massive snowstorm. The drive in on Friday night was fairly ominous as I passed close to a dozen semi trucks that had been blown over and off the side of the road. Complete carnage. Fortunately, the road was relatively clear by the time I got there, but the normally dry National Park would still be covered in a fresh coating of snow.
I woke up early on Saturday in time to get to the park before sunrise, but ended up getting skunked by an overcast sky. Still, I managed to find a herd of bighorn sheep who were kind enough to model for me a bit, giving me a chance to test out my new Sigma 150-600 lens (with an adapter). I rounded out the trip with some landscape photography (at 600mm as well in some cases!) and some epic skies on the way back home in Nebraska and Eastern Colorado.
What a cool part of the country. Will definitely be back again soon.
Hope you’re well,
Brian
