Postcards from Mount Olympus

Last week I spent a few days backpacking deep into a part of Olympic National Park that most people never get to see. Beginning at the popular Hoh Rainforest Visitor Center, I skipped the crowded Hall of Mosses trail and hiked further into the rainforest, paralleling the Hoh River for two days before turning right and scaling the lower slopes of Mount Olympus. Almost 20 miles of trail brought me to one of the most incredible viewpoints I’ve ever seen, looking down upon the massive Blue Glacier with the entire horizon filled by the cliffs of the highest peak in the Peninsula.

If it weren’t a two-day trek through the rainforest, this would be one of the most touristy spots in the entire state, but as it were, I had the place mostly to myself for the few hours I spent photographing the ice and peaks.

Hope you're well,

Brian
