Postcards from the Oregon Cascades
I’ve realized that I have two different forms of photography road trips. One—that I’ve been doing lots of lately, especially in the Olympic Peninsula—where I go deep into a specific place, return to a location repeatedly, and try to photograph particular scenes in their best light. The other, however, has me exploring a larger area at a faster pace, photographing the scenes I come across in the conditions that happen to exist when I’m there. These are half photo shoots and half location scouting trips, getting a feel for a new area and figuring out where I want to return for future, slower trips.
I’ve photographed Oregon a bit, but hadn’t really seen much of the Cascade Range there yet. So last week, I spent 5 days driving a circuitous 1100 miles from Seattle down to Crater Lake National Park and back with many, many photo stops along the way. I didn’t really know what to expect, but it definitely felt a bit different from parts of the Cascade Range in Washington that I’m more familiar with. In any case, it was a great trip; got some photos I love for the long-term Cascade Range project and found a handful of places I want to return to in different conditions and seasons.
Hope you're well,
Brian
