Postcards from the San Juan Islands

Hello!

Last month I spent a week photographing two of Washington’s San Juan Islands on assignment for the local tourism board, Visit San Juans. These islands sit in a rain shadow and get about half the annual rainfall of Seattle, but they’re still in the Pacific Northwest, so I got a nice variety of weather conditions throughout the trip.

It was my third time to the area, but my first time to Lopez Island—one with an even slower pace (“Slopez” Island, as it’s semi-jokingly known) than the others, where you need to have a hand free at all times when driving: everyone waves every time they pass another car—just a little two finger lift off the steering wheel.

Cheers,

Brian
